KINGDOM BOUND ’08

2008-05-09

With high gas prices this summer it might be hard to think of something fun to do but that wont cost you alot to do.  Thousands of people from New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Michigan, Ontario, Quebec, and New England come together at Kingdom Bound each year for a spiritually refreshing time-- why not join them?

Kingdom Bound is coming up August 3-6, 2008, at Darien Lake Theme Park Resort in Darien Center, New York, halfway between Buffalo and Rochester. It’s a great family vacation that combines faith and fun at an amusement park with lots of coasters and a refreshing water park, too! If you do the math, you get to see about 40 concerts and speakers for $2.50 each (now that’s a good deal) AND you get to ride a lot of amusement park rides in four days! Plus, there’s the added bonus of being around thousands of Christians-- imagine singing "Open The Eyes Of My Heart" or "Above All" with thousands of other people at one time-- you can do that at KB!

EVENING HEADLINERS

SUNDAY (8/3/08): Lincoln Brewster, who was born in Homer, Alaska, and once toured with Journey’s Steve Perry (praise & worship, this night is very much like a giant outdoor church service)

MONDAY (8/4/08): multi-platinum, three time Grammy-winning band Third Day (Southern rock, heavy on the guitars, and featuring the muscular voice of lead singer Mac Powell)

TUESDAY (8/5/08): multi-platinum, Latin Grammy-nominated pop singer/actress Jaci Velasquez performs with her band, then with her husband Nic Gonzales, of Salvador, and then Nic’s band, Salvador, closes out the night (Latin-pop, you might learn some Spanish words when this newly married couple, backed by a percussion-intense band, make beautiful music together)

WEDNESDAY (8/6/08): the Newsboys, a Kingdom Bound mainstay originally from Australia (groovin’ pop-rock, get on your feet and dance, as this energetic band, with its rotating-in-the-air drum set and amazing light show, brings the party wherever it goes)

DURING THE DAYS

Worship artists-- Paul Baloche, Leeland, Vicky Beeching (British, educated at Oxford), Jason Upton (Prophetic), Robin Mark and Kathryn Scott (Celtic), Matt Maher (Catholic), Ricardo (Latin), Rick Cua, and Lenny LeBlanc

Rockers-- Delirious (British), Skillet, Seventh Day Slumber, Fireflight, Big Daddy Weave, DecembeRadio, Grey Holiday, Matthew West, Disciple

Female rockers-- Ilia (all-female band), Joy Whitlock, and Stephanie Smith

Canadian rock bands-- Thousand Foot Krutch and Hawk Nelson (both started in Peterborough, Ontario), as well as Manic Drive and Turn Off The Stars (both from Toronto)

Hip-hop at The Gazebo Stage in the park, as well as The Park Stage-- Manafest, Dunamis, Mahogany, Lil Dre, Randy Gadsen, Kre8tor, Joaquin, Imagen, Sev Static, Graveyard Shift, Christian (Kevin Ranger), Todd Bangz, Cuevas Walker, Big Brother Bass, Rashay, Magaly, Caution

More variety-- pop-country band 33 Miles (featuring former "True Vibe" boy bander Jason Barton); reggae-soul band NewWorldSon (from Niagara Falls, Ontario); big band/swing act Denver and the Mile High Orchestra (recently finished in the top 3 of Fox-TV’s "The Next Great American Band" show); and Western New York bands The Dig Project (from Rochester) and Relevant Worship (from Buffalo).

Confirmed speakers for Kingdom Bound 2008 include: 1) Dr. Kevin Leman (internationally-known author, psychologist, and media personality-- "The Birth Order Book"--who used to call suburban Buffalo home) 2) Bob Lenz (a teddy bear of a man who used to be made fun of and bullied, he speaks to young people letting them know they have value) 3) David Nasser (fled Iran as a young boy, with his family, during a 1979 revolution) 4) Wes Aarum, Jr. (an energetic college ministry leader from The Chapel at CrossPoint in suburban Buffalo) 5) Joe Rojas (lead singer of rock band Seventh Day Slumber talks about his past drug problems and how God helped him overcome them) 6) Justin Lookadoo (a 6’7" motivational speaker who talks to high schoolers about drugs, alcohol, dating and relationships) 7) James Ryle (an orphan who landed in prison and later became a board member for Promise Keepers, a Christian men’s movement) 8) Keith Davis (former NFL football player who speaks to young people about self-esteem, bullying and peer pressure) 9) Lakita Garth (abstinence advocate) 10) Brett Ullman (covers media and culture from a Christian perspective).

NEW this year at Kingdom Bound:

* Garbonics® is a skit or play that contains some or all of the following: Human Video, Dance, Drama, Short Movies, Sound Effects using miscellaneous trash to make music, Large Sets, Theatrical lighting, Special Effects, and Sound. Garbonics® was created by Jason Rising and the name is derived from the words GARB-as in Garbage, and ONICS-as in Phonics for sound.

* Check out the KB Tech Tent featuring representatives from Yamaha, Shure Microphones, Martin Lighting and others. The purpose of this venue is to provide hands-on training for bands and tech teams. Clinics from Lincoln Brewster, Paul Baloche and Matt Maher will be offered during the festival.

* Rollercoaster enthusiasts will want to check out the brand new Orange County Choppers MotoCoaster. If you like rollercoasters, Darien Lake also has the Boomerang (you’ll go backwards and forwards), the Mind Eraser (the only suspended looping coaster in New York State), the Predator (the tallest wooden coaster in New York State), the Viper (the first coaster in the world to turn people upside down 5 times), and the infamous Ride of Steel (climbing to 208 feet and reaching speeds over 70MPH).

* Darien Lake is pleased to present a stunning new version of Le Grande Cirque, an amazing acrobatics show.

Don’t delay in getting your KB tickets-- call 800-461-4485 today or visit www.kingdombound.org. There are still good on-grounds accomodation packages available, and, as always, commuter tickets are available-- they never sell out--it’s a huge park!
